“At last, a documentary that tracks Old Time music to its most archaic roots thanks to West Virginian Fiddler Dave Bing…..”
Re-releasing the Crooked Tune as a short. Introducing “Walking the Crooked Tune.”
Eight years in the making… By following Dave Bing, you’ll see how Old Time is the last American musical frontier.

You can learn Old Time from archival reel to reel tapes, pick up some licks from the internet, but the only true way to feel its legacy and power is to go out to where this misunderstood music has grown wild for past few centuries, where the grafting of history and the here- and- now lives like a species thought to be extinct. But with the passing of the last of the Old Time musicians, there remain few who have that link to this still very much yet to be properly documented American musical form that goes back to before this nation’s founding.
For eight years, filmmaker Charles Cohen has followed Dave Bing, one of this country’s preeminent Old Time fiddlers, from the backwoods of West Virginia to the pubs in England and back again. The result is an exploration of a thriving musical form that is in no need of saving but rather prefers to twist and turn under the radar, which ironically is the very attraction for the young and old looking for a break from the digital age. It makes Dave Bing wonder can Old Time survive its newfound success?
